Before the baby arrives, one of the essential elements in the basic necessity of every newborn is the bottles and nipples. If you plan to bottle feed your baby, both breast milk and formula, your baby will need several bottles and nipples.  Next, we will tell you how many bottles you should buy for your newborn baby.

How many bottles should a newborn have?

The answer to the question of the  number of bottles for a newborn would be: It depends. And, depending on how the baby is going to feed during the first weeks of life, you will need to have more or less bottles and nipples available at home.

If the baby is going to be fed by breastfeeding and you are clear that this will be his only food during the first months of life, you should know that the World Health Organization (WHO) advises against the use of bottles, nipples and pacifiers during the first two months of the baby’s life.

The main reason for this recommendation is that bottles and nipples can negatively interfere with breastfeeding, causing the baby to stop nursing from its mother and prefer to feed with a bottle. Therefore, if you are going to exclusively breastfeed your baby , it is not necessary to have more than two bottles at home , and only to use them in the event that you need to express the milk to give it to the baby later.

However, if you do not want or cannot breastfeed your baby and you are going to opt for artificial feeding, it will be necessary that you have several bottles at home to be able to prepare the baby’s bottle every day . It would be advisable to have about six bottles at home , because when the plastic or glass has deteriorated, you will need to change it for a new one.
